June |
The Scottish Section have obviously taken the exhortations to get out there and ride to heart as we only had 5 members attending the June meeting. To be fair many were attending the Dutch Section’s AJS Centenary Rally. On a beautiful night with the view of the Forth bridges looking at its best in the late evening sun we were able to welcome a new face. Billy Lyle made the trek across from the Lanark area which is a good ride but perhaps not so much fun on the way back in the dark.
Alf regaled us with his descriptions of the Shetland Rally which he attended this month. The Shetland rally is much larger than you might expect and there was a great deal of interesting and not so often seen machinery included a steam powered truck.
Forthcoming events were highlighted, including runs Dennis Jackson was intending to participate in. These include the Bob McIntyre Memorial Run, Jimmie Guthrie Run and the Scottish Classic Motorcycle Club Annual Run and he was looking for other volunteers to attend. Sadly we had other engagements, although if circumstances permit, this might change. Our own weekend is the 11/12th July at Blair Atholl campsite, where we will be happy to welcome all Matchless and AJS lovers.
We reprised the events of the International Rally and all agreed that it was a great experience and that the weather was exceptional. There was a general feeling that it would have been nice to spend longer in Ireland and see more of what it has to offer. I showed off my Spirit of the Rally award, received for unfeasibly stupid efforts to attend, including driving through rural Ireland in the mist without lights all night.
